Have you visited Oregon’s vineyards and wineries? Well, this is a great time to visit them. There is so much going on everything from bottling wine to harvesting this years grapes. It is time for our yearly crush.
I can hear you thinking… What does that mean? It means… The grapes are ready to come off the vine and they need to be brought to the wineries. So, the wineries are scrambling to get wine bottled and the equipment ready to process the grapes for fermentation.
As we traveled around Yamhill County’s wine country this week we were lucky enough to get some private tours. We viewed some bottling of wine and were able to see folks harvesting grapes in the vineyard.
Then we viewed the process for the crush where grapes were coming into the winery and prepped for fermentation. Naturally, there was a little wine tasting going on for us as we watched.
We also had a chance to get a private tour in the vineyards from the owner of Methven Family Vineyards and taste some of the grapes right off the vine. Our group found the steps it takes from planting the grapevines to the time of harvest are many and seeing the wine being bottled fascinating.
During our visit we had a greater appreciation for the wine as we did our sampling.
