The weather is changing and it is getting nice outside. This is the time where many of us are making plans with our family and friends to have fun this year. Sometimes we get all caught up with going, we are forget to really prepare for these fun adventures.

Getting to know the plants on the trail.

Getting to know the plants on the trail.

Make sure you prepare for those adventures. Get to know your surroundings and have a plan in case of an emergency. Take extra food and water, an emergency/first aid kit, and make sure everyone on the outing knows where to meet if separated from the group.  It is always good to know of some of the dangers like poisonous plants in the area that you are visiting.

Here in the Pacific Northwest and all around the Willamette Valley we have many plants which are very friendly but, we do have some that are not so friendly.

Poison oak is one of those plants that is not friendly to us. It can grow as a vine or a shrub. It can be without leaves in the winter. During the spring and fall the leaves will be red and green and very pretty. During the summer poison oak will be a solid green. It can look just like small oak trees. But, don’t be fooled. If you touch this plant it will give you a very uncomfortable itchy rash. Sometimes with blisters… And, it will spread if you scratch it.

We want you to have lots of fun and to beware of the dangers that may be out there when you are having fun this year.

So, as you get ready for your adventures and journeys this year. Make plans to be safe and enjoy all the exciting moments you, your family and friends are going to have.

We invite you to take a look at our website and give us a call if you would like to join us for one of our adventures. We have many of them throughout the years.

Family fun is always something we look forward too and are looking for. Especially when we have little ones in our household.  I have grandchildren who are growing up so fast. At 19 and 12 there are many things they feel are way too young for them. But, a Christmas light display brings out the young at heart. Even when you are 19 and 12 years of age.

A great time is had by all at the Storybook Lane in the little community of Dilley, Oregon just outside of Forest Grove. It is a great place for the little ones to enjoy the story book characters they read about. It is also a great place for those who are a little older to revisit their childhood. You get to re-visit scenes of nursery rhymes that you knew of from your childhood.

The Storybook Lane is operated by a family and their friends. They have donated their time and money into bring some joy to everyone who visits. It takes them months to put it all together and it is free for you to visit. Donations are always welcomed. If you do visit donate what you can to keep this great tradition alive for all to enjoy.

Many events take place around the state throughout the year. One of those events just happened to be the 29th Anniversary for Laurel Ridge Winery. It is a winery that sits in the heart of Oregon’s wine country.

Over the years they have grown to a wonderful array of wines on their wine list. Everything from sparking wine to port. They pride themselves to having wines that everyone can enjoy and afford.

It is always wonderful to see a business celebrate an anniversary. To hear about the years of hard work it took for them to reach this goal in their life.  To see all the smiles from the accomplishments and hear their stories and laughter.

The Laurel Ridge Winery celebration was fun with BBQ foods, wine and a up close and personal concert. The country duo Lace and Lead from Nashville serenade us with their lovely voices into the night.

It was a fun night for all.

As we travel around Oregon we see the vast landscape with its fields, orchards, gardens and row crops. Without taking time to stop and view these wonderful sights you will never know the how importance they are. We sometimes get so involved in our day-to-day lives we forget to look at the little things that make our days better.

Today, we were traveling around the countryside of Oregon and took the time to look at the vineyards, trees, corn fields and all the grass fields and orchards that surrounded us. It was a beautiful site with every color imaginable. There are so many colors of greens, yellows and browns.

Have you looked at the summer flowers? Those in your yards and those which grow wild along the highways. They are with bright gorgeous colors than make them stand out for you to take notice.

So, remember when you are going about your day to take a moment to view your surroundings. Remember those farmers who work so hard to grow food for your table. Remember to have fun among the beautiful colorful flowers that also brighten your day. We are blessed with a beautiful place to live, work and play.

Every once in a while there are special moments you just can not pass by. This week I had one of those special moments that happened in front of me. Now, there are times where we are too busy to take time to share in someone else’s moments. Then there are times where you just know that you should share with others in their special moments.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a young man who wanted to share the day with his girlfriend on a wine tour. He told me of his plans. So, after hearing his plans I was sure I wanted to help him with this wine tour. I made sure it was a private tour. With each winery offering something different for them to embrace. They had a tour of a wine cellar along with pictures with barrels of wine. There were great views to enjoy a few snacks as they sampled wine. Even wineries that said they were closed were open just for them.

The last winery of the day was at the beautiful Wine Country Farm Bed & Breakfast and Armonea` Vineyard and Winery. It over looks the valley from the Dundee Hills. After sampling an array of wines this young couple took their glass of wine and strolled through the gardens. At the edge of the garden there is a gazebo where this young couple sat down to shared their wine and some chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate kisses.

Soon came a special moment. This young man got down his knee and opened a jewelry box with a lovely ring. He took the ring and her hand and asked his girlfriend to marry him. She was surprised and with tears, smiles and kisses… She said…. Yes! This is a one in a life time moment that they will never forget.

Everyone one who shared in their day felt blessed to be a small part of their special moment. I know I do. So, as you go through your life do not pass by a special moment in yours or someone else’s life.

It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is to have fun at the beach. We have fun whether it rains or shines when visiting the Oregon Coast. Many folks like to visit the coast during coastal winter storms for watching the waves and then comb the beaches when the weather calms.

DSCN6680The weather this week has been warm in the mid 50’s and we saw a little sun, misty showers, gray clouds and some blue skies. There were not many people on the beach on this February weekday. It was like a private beach just for you to enjoy. Oregon has miles of sandy beaches that are open to the public and it never seems too crowded. DSCN6688

If you would like to take a coastal tour with us here in Oregon give us a call.
