The weather is changing and it is getting nice outside. This is the time where many of us are making plans with our family and friends to have fun this year. Sometimes we get all caught up with going, we are forget to really prepare for these fun adventures.

Getting to know the plants on the trail.

Getting to know the plants on the trail.

Make sure you prepare for those adventures. Get to know your surroundings and have a plan in case of an emergency. Take extra food and water, an emergency/first aid kit, and make sure everyone on the outing knows where to meet if separated from the group.  It is always good to know of some of the dangers like poisonous plants in the area that you are visiting.

Here in the Pacific Northwest and all around the Willamette Valley we have many plants which are very friendly but, we do have some that are not so friendly.

Poison oak is one of those plants that is not friendly to us. It can grow as a vine or a shrub. It can be without leaves in the winter. During the spring and fall the leaves will be red and green and very pretty. During the summer poison oak will be a solid green. It can look just like small oak trees. But, don’t be fooled. If you touch this plant it will give you a very uncomfortable itchy rash. Sometimes with blisters… And, it will spread if you scratch it.

We want you to have lots of fun and to beware of the dangers that may be out there when you are having fun this year.

So, as you get ready for your adventures and journeys this year. Make plans to be safe and enjoy all the exciting moments you, your family and friends are going to have.

We invite you to take a look at our website and give us a call if you would like to join us for one of our adventures. We have many of them throughout the years.

We know during winter the weather can give us some ups and downs. The last few years our Oregon weather has been very mild when it comes to storms.  This last week we have been experiencing those wind and rainy storms that remind us of 1996/1997. Many of our small communities have had flooding from the rivers, streams and creeks that are within our beautiful state.

We know that we need the rain during the winter and spring months. It helps to bring snow into our mountain ranges. Those snow packs help us with our water supplies throughout the state. The snow packs also help to prevent forest fires during the summer months. Which is a very good thing. We here in Oregon are big for the outdoors. Spending time in our forests and enjoying outdoor sports are a life style for us. We need the snow in the mountains to have fun in the summer.

In the mean time we sometimes experience those creeks, rivers and streams to over flow their banks. We come together with neighbors to help out those who need help during these times. To help those small business owners who need us to be patrons as they rebuild their businesses after being flooded.

So, please remember those who are in your neighborhoods who need a helping hand during this time. They may not ask but reach out to see if there is something you can do. You may not have money to give but, you may be able to give some blankets, clothes or even some food from your cupboards that could help. You could even give an hour or two to pitch in and do some cleaning. We have many elderly folks in our neighborhoods who would love to see you stop by to help to rake some leaves.

Enjoy giving and helping those who need you!

It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is to have fun at the beach. We have fun whether it rains or shines when visiting the Oregon Coast. Many folks like to visit the coast during coastal winter storms for watching the waves and then comb the beaches when the weather calms.

DSCN6680The weather this week has been warm in the mid 50’s and we saw a little sun, misty showers, gray clouds and some blue skies. There were not many people on the beach on this February weekday. It was like a private beach just for you to enjoy. Oregon has miles of sandy beaches that are open to the public and it never seems too crowded. DSCN6688

The weather did not stop us from having fun today! We traveled around wine country and enjoyed new friends, food, wine and a lot of laughter.

There may have been wind and rain from a tropical storm from the Pacific Ocean but we hung onto our hats and umbrella’s as we worked our way to Carlton Cellars, Durant Vineyards, Duck Pond Winery and to Red Ridge Olive Mill.

We have had a wonderful start to fall this year in Oregon. There has been many cool nights and sunny warm days. With this type of weather there are changes with our surroundings.

Many of the flowers are leaving us until spring. Our gardens are fading away. The leaves on our trees are turning and showing their new colors. Wow! This is a great time to get outside and take a walk or drive around your neighborhood or through the beautiful countryside.

Many people talk about going to the east coast to view the fall colors. I love the state of Oregon. Some people may think I am  just a little prejudice. But, Oregon also has beautiful fall colors and I do not need to go to the east coast to see them.

We have more pictures of Oregon and information about events in Oregon on our website: www.embraceoregon.com  checkout our facebook page also.

I hope you are taking time to Embrace Oregon and its beauty.

Have a great day in Oregon!

Today as I was on my journey I came across a little squirrel. It was busy gathering items and burying them for winter. I know that it is just the beginning of fall. This little squirrel sure made me think about the winter months.

I guess we all need to get prepared for the winter months. It won’t be long before winter will be here.

Have a great day in Oregon!

Wow! Fall is here… The weather is starting to change, The air is cool at night and warm during the day. School is back in session. We still see so many things that we want to do.

Did we have fun during the summer? I know I did. The question is… am I done having fun? No! I do not want to stop having fun and just because it is Fall we do not have to stop having fun.

Our gardens are still needing to be harvested. Take time to visit your local Farmers Markets. Most of them have live music, wonderful vendors and great food to try. The produce is fresh and you will be supporting your local community.

Don’t stop having fun just because the season changed from Summer to Fall. Take a look at our new Fall updates on www.embraceoregon.com  Get out there and pick your pumpkin.

Have a great day in Oregon!
