There is nothing better than taking an adventure to the Oregon’s countryside. On this adventure, we had fun with a visit to Camp 18 Restaurant and the Logging Museum.

Camp 18 Restaurant and Logging Museum is a great place to visit along Highway 26 and Humbug Creek.

We enjoyed a cold drink, along with a delicious meal, and did not pass up dessert. I cheated and took some of my fish in a to-go box home with me, so I had room for the marionberry cobbler.

There are wood carvings of loggers and wild animals all around the grounds for you to find.

After you had a lovely meal, it is time to discover the grounds and gift shop.

Oregon has always relied on the logging industry. From the 1800s to the 1970s, logging was the main staple of Oregon’s economy.

During the early years, logging equipment used was with horses, mules, many types of hand tools and steam equipment.

As you are exploring the grounds, you will see many types of logging equipment from years gone bye.

It is very relaxing to take a stroll as you explore the equipment and follow the path down to Humbug Creek.

It is a sweet day when you can take your time and embrace your surrounding and discover another place in Oregon.

When you are exploring see if you can find the Monmouth Elephant hiding along the waters edge of Humbug Creek.

Give us a call if you would like to join us for an Oregon adventure.

We have many wonderful waterfalls in Oregon. Some are in remote places and others are very easy to get to. It is always an adventure to head to the countryside to spend the day visiting mother nature and take a hike. Oregon waterfalls are icing on the cake at the end of the hike.

Oregon Coastal Mountain RangeMay 2015 058

The Oregon Coastal Mountain Range has lush green trees and beautiful forest floor plants. As you explore into Oregon’s forests in the spring there are a large variety of wildflowers scattering the landscape.

Some of these native plants love peeking up in the spring and throughout the year. We start looking for native plants like the Three-Toothed mitrewort in the early spring.

Oregon Wildflowers

Horsetail Wild Flowers

This week as we enjoyed exploring the Oregon Coastal Mountain Range we also found some northern giant horsetail or some of us like calling it snake grass. It is located in the picture to the right. This plant is native to the area and located throughout this mountain range.

So, keep your eyes open when you are out on a hike in the Oregon’s Coastal Mountain Range. You may find some surprises as you are hiking. They are popping up everywhere.

Enjoy the native surrounding that are all around us. Sometimes we get so involved with our day-to-day lives we forget to enjoy the simple things like these beautiful native plants.

There are many places around Oregon which have family fun things to see and do. There is the Prehistoric Gardens on Highway 101 at Port Orford, Oregon. It has wonderful trails that take you back in time along with great facts about the prehistoric life from that period in time and life size animals.

Hoodoos-at-John-Day-Fossil-Beds-National-Monument

There are also places around the state were you can find fossils showing life from the past like the John Day Fossil Beds in Eastern Oregon. Many fossils and prehistoic life discoveries have been found in the beds in these rocky hills.

February 2016 041
A great new find for us to see was in Lincoln City, Oregon. We found a shop called Prehistoic. It has some fossils from around the world as well as some from Oregon. It is a worth wild stop and see these amazing items from the past.
As you are out and about in the great state of Oregon. Take time to visit some of these wonderful sites and discover some of our states past as well as the worlds past.
